Time to head home.
The view from the room.
Grandma Judy met Bea on her birthday.
We stayed in the hospital the 10th, 11th, & 12th and came home on the 13th. Dan's mom and Mike met Bea on the morning of her birthday and Heather came to visit on the 12th. The recovery nurses were wonderful, especially Anna, the night nurse, and Siu Lee, the day nurse who we had twice. At one point I (think) Anna explained to me that the medicated compresses I was given had some sort of cocaine salve on them. Siu Lee called Bea our 'one month old baby' due to her size.
Most of the time in the hospital was spent nursing Bea, ordering cheeseburgers and bottles of water from food service, and changing diapers, which Dan did the majority of since I was still hooked up to an IV for the first two days and it took awhile to get in and out of the hospital bed, despite its automatronic features. We slept just a little, a half hour here, twenty minutes there, and took really fast showers, not knowing how long Bea would sleep for. Twice Bea went to the nursery, directly across the hall from our room, so we could try to catch up on sleep. Each time I'd wake up about 30 minutes before the nurse wheeled her back in, missing her terribly.
Time sped by. Nurses, lactation consultants, food service, and visitors came in and out of the curtain in front of the hospital room door. We never thought to turn on the TV. The view out of the hospital room showed Pacific Heights and the Sutro Tower, all bathed in sunshine. Late in the afternoon on the 13th we got Bea dressed in the outfit we'd chosen weeks before as her 'going home' outfit. When Dan tried to place her in the car seat, she was too big for the 'small baby' setting, so he adjusted the seat to the next size up. On the way home to Oakland we picked up my mom, crossed the bridge, and then picked up Cactus taqueria burritos and tacos for dinner.
